Autumn Slacker

Hello!

I was happily able to attend the Grand Opening of Hello Bluebird and the Betz White book signing in West Reading! Yay, fun!

However, I have been MAJORLY slacking on my Blog here! I have just been so busy with 2 P/T jobs and the business of making handbags, I am pooped. I barely even update my FB status these days! :)

So here are some goings on:

HPShop_0012

The HodgePodgery just had their ribbon cutting ceremony- Yippee! Too bad, I could not attend. Boo.

LASTLY: My 'zine is finally finished, and I can't wait to share it!!!!! Watch for my blog this week with all the pages!

Kind Over Matter-Words for Wednesday

I HAD to share this amazing poetry. I needed a smile, some inspiration.... and there is was. Perfect. Please enjoy :)

Just Add Oxygen
| Jessica Dawson

Your hundred thousand breaths
finger the outline of my consciousness;
your seven hundred unspoken words
strum the back of my neck like
impossible notes,
implausible love songs.
Whimper your fears in my language
sign your dreams in felt -
inaudible and fevered,
soft and worn.

Let's make a pact
to pry apart our eyelids
with forceps when necessary
to fight the heavy hands of sleep
when we're
inches from answers,
seconds from satisfactory solutions.

Let's revert to amoeba,
chisel down
to the basest versions of ourselves,
give up our car keys
bank accounts,
favorite jeans
and lovers,
become asexual and self-sufficient
to thwart the motion
of our borrowed freedom.

I lie awake counting zebras,
imagining empty skylines:

we're all
volunteer rainbows,
substitute stars.

What I Found Unique Over the Weekend

Just a few things while I was doing my social media thing this weekend (wishing for sun so I could attend CbN). Alas, I spent my time not at the craft show, but on my puter and in my studio working- which I must say is never a bad thing! To the right, JulesArtwear is having a Pick 2 Promo!

Hello Bluebird

This NEW West Reading boutique has local and international handmade art! There is so much color and love put into this boutique, I felt right at home leaving my handbags there. Alex is wonderful and has a great business mind. "Flighty" as Alex calls herself- ALL artists are, it was comforting to meet others just like me, that want to show their goods at Hello Bluebird. The official opening is September 3, 2009- I can't wait. It is a "first Thursday" in Reading on Penn Ave- where the shoppes stay open later, and really artsy tasteful things take place. I(Eclectically Chic) will DEFINITELY be attending this, as will artists from Ztown, and many more!

Inspirations

What inspires Eclectically Chic? I have to be cheesy(In the most loving way possible) and say things like my parents for sure, 100%, Boyfriend~Sean, and PR besty~Kate... Without them, I'd be a hot disaster amongst a heap of fabric. Ok, not exactly, but close.

I am inspired mostly by colors, textures, smells, people, dogs, and the weather. Those are just the ones that get my butt in motion to work and get creative. So... I have posted some pics that make me smile, and get my juices flowing in the studio!

I am also so lucky to have met some fabulous people over the last couple of months. I am part of new social media communities like Handmade in Pa, PA Guild of Craftsmen, Twitter, Handmade Craft Show, and so many more. Please take a few minutes to check out some of my communities along my sidebar and on my Facebook.

The HodgePodgery~ Harrisburg, PA

A day trip out to Harrisburg(my soon-to-be new home) turned into a GREAT experience! Boyfriend and I went to visit Dawn at HodgePodgery, a new boutique in downtown Harrisburg. It will have a Grand Opening the week of July 21st through the 25th. I will surely be attending this shindig, so come out and meet the new shop owners, and me!

I delivered my new Summer creations to hopefully go flying off the shelf at this unique little shop! I have included pictures of my wares you will find there, as well as the up-coming HodgePodgery. Envision the potential here- a calm setting, handmade creations of upcycled and repurposed products, wonderful and warm customer service, all within the charming Harrisburg area. I walked in with a "WOW," what a great locale and sweet architecture, and HUGE store front windows- YAY!

Dawn is full of energy and spunk, which certainly drew me in. She is super excited about presenting artists' work and she has some awesome ideas for things to come! I haven't met Jess yet, but if she exudes half as much excitement at Dawn, this will be a fantastic voyage for Eclectically Chic by Emily Lazo. I will be proud to have my handmade purses there and will be visiting often to see what else the HodgePodgery brings in!

Zip It Zippers!

I was so fortunate to come across a lovely Etsy site called KungFuCowgirl awhile back. Owner Jennie Sternhagen had great zippers on her site and cute accessories made with them. I bought a bunch of zippers from her, and was amazed at how fast they came, and how great her prices were! Then, she created an Etsy site solely for zippers Zip It Zipper Supply. I have been in heaven ever since! I simply tell Jennie what colors and what sizes I need, and voila' there they are on my front porch! They come so quickly, sweetly packaged, and full of little surprises along with my purchase. On top of all that, I can't beat Zip It's prices!

Please check out Jennie's sites~ both KungFuCowgirl and Zip It Zipper Supply and watch for more of my handmade purses utilizing the zippers I purchased from them!

Summer Loves Handmade!

Full Swing into Summer!

Welcome back to Eclectically Chic by Emily Lazo's latest blog!

I have been feverishly working all weekend to illuminate my collection with colors and textures fo
r the Philadelphia Designer's Market July 18th. I seem to have been in a rusty/rose color mood, which must have come from my recent stay in Cape May by the bay! I came back tan and ready to sew my little heart out, and that's what I did- and I have pictures to prove it :)

New, But Not a Newbie

Hi,

So this is my first time----ever---- writing a true blog, except for those generic ones I have posted on MySpace, but that doesn't count... I do not think, anyway.

I have been sewing since I was a little girl and I grew to be a fashion design major- turned into a small business owner of Eclectically Chic by Emily Lazo: Custom Design Handbags. I love every darn minute of this life, but I want and NEED to get out there more and take charge of my business! I want to succeed, I have realistic goals, and I want people to be proud to own Eclectically Chic by Emily Lazo.

I have created a website using WebMe through MAC, but it does not seem to get get seen by anyone, and the web address is ridiculous- web.me.com/eclecticem.

I am also a proud user of Etsy: eclecticgal13.etsy.com

Here are a few samples of my work:

Thanks!
